A third-person action-adventure co-op sandbox where you build fully-customized mechs to take down robotic titans.

Build. Plan. Execute. Adapt. Destroy.

The Future is Fantastic

IT TURNS OUT that CLIMATE CHANGE WAS A BIGger DEAL than [some people] thought. IT WAS like THE EARTH was suddenly and utterly finished with US.

HURRICANES as big as Texas that can last AN HOUR — IF WE'RE LUCKY. LONGEST ONE WENT ON FOR close to A MONTH. COULD BE WORSE, of course. I’ve HEARD there are SHREDDING TWISTERS OUT WEST, whatever those are. They sure do SOUND bad, though.

Build. Plan. Execute. Adapt. Destroy.

Steel Hunters IS all about CUSTOMIZATION. YOUR MECH, PLAY STYLE, and VISUAL FLAIR is completely tailored to you. but listen up, tin man: You’ll still need to work as a team for every mission, FORMING STRATEGIES along the way.

watch A TORNADO SPIN UP NEARBY. OR A BOSS that adapts to your strategy. OR YOUR FRIEND, JIMMY, BLESS HIS HEART, ACCIDENTALLY BLOWS UP A BARREL, leaving A fourth OF an important airfield IN FLAMES. You know, stuff like that. This apocalypse stuff is hard.

BUT — oh yes — the rewards are wondrous. You may get the same item twice, but we doubt it. This rubble, let's see... a silo from the felled behemoth, titanium ore, and oh! IS THIS A MICRO WARHEAD? I just got a titanium six-silo micro-warhead launcher! Today will be glorious.

It Started with an Exosuit

HUMANITY NEEDED A WAY TO LEAVE their SETTLEMENTS and GATHER resources from the bleak wastelands left in the wake of world-spanning climate collapse. They needed protection from the stalking robots out there, too. AFTER A FEW YEARS LIVING BEHIND WALLS, THE FIRST EXO-SUITS WERE CREATED. A LOT OF THEM BLEW UP. This was SAD, but still quite spectacular.

It took another 100 years, but tech evolved to produce HUMAN-PILOTED MECHS able to go TOE TO TOE WITH the DEADLY AI MACHINES. Our new heroes are Pilots, of course, but also Doctors. Who cares if they have actual training? They keep the PILOTS sane(-ish) after DAILY NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES.

Mechs

YOUR MECH IS YOUR KINGDOM. CUSTOMIZE IT WITH ARMOR, WEAPONS, DECALS, SKULLS, ROCKS, SPIT, BAD WORDS – we don’t care. MAKE IT YOUR own, but for heaven’s sake, MAKE IT DEADLY. You’ve only got 11 slots for weapons and armor: make it work.

Of course, you’ll need to pay attention to how much you can carry. Choose a two-legged Mech and you’ll be fast and flexible, but unable to carry much. Grab the workhorse Treaded mech, and you’ll be less squishy, but real slow. Hope you added some armor!

But You know what? it’s up to you. Weigh down your biped mech. it’ll be fine! (maybe). Did we mention the Spider-mechs? No? Ah.

Machines Evolve Too

Of course, the machines haven't just been sitting idle. Once we got out in the wastelands, our mechs started taking out the machines left and right. Then we realized that something else had... evolved.

Enormous battle fortresses capable of adapting to any tactical situation. WE CALL THEM BEHEMOTHS. They really don’t like us.

Behemoths

These are LESS ROBOT, MORE WALKING DEATH FORTRESS. They're nothing but weapons and lasers and missiles and shields and generators and so much metal. Maybe all of the metal.

I mean, hell, will we ever catch a break?

Earth Still Hates Us

Every mission presents unique challenges. Choose your teammates wisely, or go it alone. Remember, though: ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS will CHANGE all the TIME. You and your crew trying to take down that behemoth? What will you do when blazing hot, extreme sandstorms show up? Visibility down to 5 feet ahead? Too bad.

IF THAT WAS THE WORST of it, fine, WE COULD DEAL. But the wastelands are full of stuff waiting to ruin your strategy at any moment. SOME PILOT SHOOTS a couple of rounds, the BULLETs RICOCHEt off a boulder AND HIT An Oil BARREL. Then that BARREL IGNITES the NEARBY FIELD you need to traverse to get to the next target. DAMMIT, JIMMY, WE'RE NEVER BRINGING YOU ALONG AGAIN.

A Dynamic, Responsive World

Look, stuff is gonna go down on missions. It’s not all random. JIMMY'S stupid ricochet WOULD HAVE HAPPENED THE EXACT SAME WAY HAD HE HIT THE SAME SPOT ON THAT ROAD AGAIN. WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF RULES, AFTER ALL.

DAYS WILL TURN INTO NIGHTS, ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS WILL CHANGE UNPREDICTABLY (SOMETIMES TO YOUR BENEFIT), AND EVERYTHING BEHAVES LIKE YOU'D NATURALLY EXPECT IT TO. Oil is flammable, heavy-caliber bullets penetrate thin trees, and sand slows you down. EARTH HAS CHANGED, BUT PHYSICS HASN'T.
